Pedro's Top 5s - Arc 1

Post by pdbnb »

This may be controversial, but I am doing it anyway.

This is based purely on Arc 1, up to and including Magnum Opus, and only includes people who have wrestled at least one match during that period (so, no John J. Truth.)

And yes, I have included my own characters where deemed applicable, based on feedback from other people in the league. Opinions on characters that aren't mine are my own.

Feel free to share your own.

Faces

1- Darring
2- Big Aug
3- Crusader X
4- Jerry David
5- Alfie Button

Heels
1- Aleczander
2- Dream
3- Rah
4- Reyn
5- The Great Wall

It should be noted that Pierson and Son of Malta are probably very true tweeners at current and wouldn't qualify for either list. Also....Crusader X is listed as a heel, but the way he has been written lately and the relationship with Button and their convos....hard to put him heel right now

OVERALL

SINGLES

1- Darring
2- Aleczander
3- Dream
4- Big Aug
5- Crusader X
6- Rah
7- Reyn
8- Pierson
9- Alfie Button
10- Jerry David

TAG TEAMS

1- Prime Time Athletes
2- The Rich Family
3- Metal Militia
4- Amber Button
5- Master Sisters/Trouble Roxx (tie)

Tag team division, in my humble opinion is very thin and weak compared to places I have seen and experienced in the past. While we have a lot of teams, not very many have truly distinguished themselves from the rest in a meaningful way. IN fact, we have some that are stabling up and that makes it even weaker, IMHO

I went with the overall cycle - Outcome, card placement, direction, story, card status - not my favorite reads. I also was very uncomfortable rating my own guys.

TOP 5 BABYFACES
1. Sean Darring - Champion had a lot of big wins and ended with the title. He has to be one, even if I wanted to leave myself off this list.
2. Jerry David - Top feud/story through cycle one counts for a lot. Some (myself) can argue having the top story is more rewarding than the title.
3. Big Aug - Maybe the 2nd feud of the cycle and was in the #1 contender match. Had quite the cycle and, on paper, fell one match short of a huge arc.
4. Christian Pierson - Most are putting this guy heel. I think Pierson himself was more face than a heel in the first arc with his "troubles." Manny is obviously the heel! Had the best arc of self-character build, which may be the 2nd best thing after the top story.
5. Angel Ramirez - Angel had a big feud with Queen and a key PPV win. She slides into the 5th spot in a weak face squad currently.

Aflie, Darren Best, and a few others could have been mentioned, but they carried too many losses and were used in enhancement roles.

TOP 5 HEELS
1. Daniel Dream - The Chosen one angle all cycle, and if it wasn't for the dastardly Sean Darring, he would have sailed to the champion angle.
2. Aleczander The Great - Aleczander finished the cycle with the number one contender and the #2 angle for me. He starts the 2nd cycle in place as the top heel, but I think Dream gets the edge on ending cycle one mostly on card placement and his Chosen One story.
3. E Z Rah - E Z was a gem to read for me this cycle. I started off thinking I was not sure about this guy, and he won me over quickly and had the top story of all the arcs.
4. Alex Reyn - The heel class was so much stronger overall than the face class. Reyn did a lot of Reyn things this cycle. He squashed things, caused chaos, and ended up in the title match. Some questionable selling and a bad unplaced interference angle in the PPV slid him down for me.
5. Crusader X - I am a bit surprised to see him on so many face lists. I felt his first arc was more self-served and a heel. If he was a face, he would have been on it for sure. Such an interesting character that deserves a great feud and arc!

The heel squad is so much stronger than the face squad IMO. Especially if Pierson goes heel ... Face squad, let's step up!

TOP 5 TAG TEAMS
1. The Rich Family - I have always been a Rich Family fan. If Keegan didn't run them, I am sure they would have had a stronger arc. Despite their giant obstacle (Keegan won't give them a push), they had the strongest tag work throughout the cycle and fell just short of the titles.
2. Master Sisters - The tag champs had some fun/strong segments - ended the arc with the match before the Main Event and the belts. Hard not to get a top-two position after that.
3. Amber / Alfie - I know this one is sort of cheating. They were not an official tag team. However, they had plenty of joint segments and some tag matches, and they kind of should, especially since Keegan will not push Alfie in singles action. They could actually be a really good tag addition. They had some good placement on the card and lots of attention.
4. Prime Time Atheltes - My team and I had a rough first arc. I miscalculated my story, and they finished with a quiet win on the PPV. They could almost be left off this list. I need to do better.
5. Team Roxx - They came out of nowhere at the end of the cycle. They got a debut win and then some fun creative segments on the PPV. They get the 5th spot and are interested to see where they go.

I thought the tag division started off strong, but it started to show it's warts through the cycle. I did not help this. I think there needs to be some structure, attention, and story direction with the division in arc two.
