Football Manager - anyone?

Post by Legend »

Does anyone here (There are some non-Americans) play Football Manager?

I recently purchased and have gotten back into FM23, and it's a masterpiece in this version.

I played all CMs and FMs from CM2 96/97 (or was it 97/98?) up to 2010 in some capacity, and have played none of the subsequent ones (I mostly pick them up from charity shops, and they are all Steam-locked after 2011.)

That said, it is hands down my favourite game series, and I shudder every time I see just HOW MUCH of my lifetime I lost playing FM09 over the past 12 years. And I probably logged just as many hours on CM 03/04 - where I had my most epic campaign of all time, taking a team from the Portuguese third tier to defeated Champions League finalists over 5 or 6 seasons - and probably only slightly fewer on FM'07, my other two favourites. Honourable mention to CM2 97/98 for how it rocked my world back in the day. '05, '06 and '08 aren't that good. The 'fake' CMs that spun out after the series became FM (CM5 and the like) can suck a fat one, as well.

I have just seen this.

I'll bring this up with Hod, but expect a match-length answer in response to the question.

I have been running a Parma save, attempting to pull them out of Serie B with the leadership of a 44-year-old Buffon. It's been a lot of fun, even with the financial challenges of the smaller team. I am currently in second place at the table. A Serie A climb looks likely, but when I played a team from there in the Italian Cup, I did not fair well with my current squad.

Small teams are my favourite way to play. Nothing quite like accidentally running across a player lingering in a tiny club in like, Congo or Reunion or wherever, who is leaps ahead of everyone else in the division, AND would not mind joining a tiny club like yours. It's the only way I play anymore. In fact, I just started an FM'10 save with a club from Romanian Division C (now called Division III) as I got tired of managing sides in the Portuguese Second Division (actually our third tier), having gone through most of them at this point.

I have been running an MLS save (I am in mid-year - 2)... Man, the rules and challenges MLS offers sure make things challenging!

I did win the MLS Playoffs CUP and Supporters Shield in year one, built around solid veteran defense and goalie. This year has been a little more challenging as I replaced some of that age with youth.
